Your status line has spare rows. Put something alive in them.

PixelBar draws a small animated creature under the text row of your Claude Code status line and wires it to what is actually happening — the turn you are in, the context you have spent, the state of your worktree, the hours left on your window. Try the signals on the terminal; it is running the real renderer.

✳ working — the sprite walks its poses

Three steps, no account

1

Make a creature

Start from a shipped skin, a blank grid, or drop in pixel art — the tracer measures its grid and converts it exactly.

2

Watch every state

The studio shows all six signals live while you draw, so you ship colours that actually read.

3

Run one line

The install command carries the whole skin in its URL. No account, no upload, nothing to sign up for.

Try clawd right now

This installs three files under ~/.claude/pixelbar/, points your settings.json at one of them after backing it up, and diagnoses anything that would stop it working. It never uses sudo, never touches anything else, and never phones home. Open the URL in a browser first if you want to read every line it will run — the whole script is there.

curl -fsSL https://pixerbar.dev/i/zZTNbsIwEITfZc4-7F8QiR8FcXD5E2rDASioQrx75QQqRNelLa3avUQZj535vHYO2KHhgFVqZ2gweUr7KQL2aCSr83VqZxs0FvCQNtkhpJFFY10hYJGeF1nkwTBWFE0QMFnPUpuNFUWxOopl53L1iOYAyWaRyFxFpgECNFtNohBH5hoB1k3mKGqRh4ZjwDxttmhGFGQccM40AhFfFPWF0OmnIbrW-wH6lJ-v6pb-UR5fJ6bu_fS4qd_Nq77fXC4RtQKv_hFvMb96vErm-5XM5TX1edXcPFrah3Oed1z61f5qIX-hvwXefh2nv6Xz7PNeftfNeT_vd8_5_7-_44Dpcr196f9cTvUzf0R_S9nVJbmv_26e8fEV | bash

Undo it any time: the same line with --uninstall puts back whatever status line you had before. Full installation guide →

What the creature is telling you

Working or idle
While Claude is mid-turn the sprite walks its poses — several steps a second on a busy turn. Eight quiet seconds and it parks on its resting pose.
Context window
The body fills with the gauge colour from the belly up, one pixel row per tenth used. A glance tells you whether you have room for one more big ask.
Uncommitted work
Pixels the skin nominates — a tail, a pair of hands — turn pale while git has uncommitted changes, and settle back when you commit.
Five-hour window
A single column beside the creature fills bottom-up and runs green → amber → red as your rate window is spent. It is separate on purpose: at 100% context the gauge paints every row of the body, so anything drawn there would vanish exactly when you needed it.

Two creatures ship with it

The studio lets you edit your own version of either creature — open it, redraw a pose, swap the colours, rename it, and the install line is yours. Or start from a blank grid, or trace your own from pixel art.

clawd

21×10 px · 4 poses

Waves a wand while it works.

  • Working, it conjures: a wand appears in its paw with a burst of gold sparks, and its eyes narrow to > < in concentration.
  • Idle, the wand is stowed and the eyes open to a calm | |.
  • Its two outstretched hands are what turn pale on uncommitted work — busy hands, unfinished business.

whaleagent

15×10 px · 4 poses

Swims while it works.

  • Working, the fluke sweeps down-rest-up-rest and the whole body rides one pixel with it — lifted frame-for-frame from a 128px GIF.
  • Idle, it parks mid-glide, perfectly still.
  • The fluke is what answers to git: the business end of a whale.

Every state, live

A skin is a sprite crossed with six independent signals, and the only way to know a palette works is to see all of them together — which is exactly what the studio shows you while you draw.
